METRO LINE C
Cipa is an operational part of the T3
section of the Rome Metro Line C, about 2.8 km long, with 2 stations (Amba
Aradam/Ipponio and Fori Imperiali) and 2 ventilation shafts (via Sannio and
Piazza Celimontana). Amba Aradam/Ipponio station is located halfway
between San Giovanni station and Fori Imperiali station. In this site have
ancient structures been found important and, in particular, an ancient Roman
barracks of over thirty rooms decorated with wall frescoes and mosaic floors,
which will be the subject of a specific project of construction inside the
future station.
The Fori Imperiali station is located
below the homonymous street, between the Colosseum and the area in front of the
Basilica of Maxentius. It plays a strategic role, in addition to the fact
that it is in one of the most visited monumental areas in the world, also as a
fundamental interchange with the Line B.
Specifically, two tunnels have been
entrusted to CIPA, for five excavation fields of about 41 meters total,
specularly for both rails (even and odd) and two tunnels by-pass. In
addition to the construction of the ventilation shaft that fits midway between
the Fori Imperiali station and the Amba Aradam/Ipponio station, inside the
garden of Piazza Celimontana, near the Celio Military Hospital.
It has a circular plan of external
diameter of about 35 meters, while the steel level is at -15.50 meters asl. It
follows a significant depth of excavation, which reaches 60 meters from the
ground floor. The shaft, in addition to the function of ventilation shaft
(equipped by the ventilation systems), will also be the access point to the
line for the Fire Department in case of emergencies, but above all it will
allow the passage of railway trains from the track equal to the odd track, to
ensure that trains stop at 4 minutes, on the Fori Imperiali - Alessandrino
route.
